Wwoof (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) is an Australia-wide
network of host properties where you can receive free food and board
in exchange for a few hours work per day (usually around 4).
While I am not a member of the Wwoof organisation I often have Wwoofers
stay and help out running the B & B. The work varies depending on
the time of year but often includes gardening, painting, cleaning
(of course), building, computer assistance, hosting etc.
The hours and work are flexible and there's plenty of time to get
out and about, ride to the beach, meet the locals, play music and
generally enjoy life. I've got a good library, a good collection
of CD's, bikes, a canoe and 2 girls who enjoy meeting new people.
Accommodation varies according to the time of year from a room upstairs
(when it's quiet) to a bed downstairs (where the girls and I live)
or a tent or a space over at the humpy (a caravan under a roof in
the rainforest about 50m from the B & B.
If you have a van that's fine too. Singles are preferred but I if
it's quiet I can sometimes take a couple also. It's best for me
if Wwoofers can stay a minimum of a 2 weeks but there's not really
a maximum time.
If you are interested please email me on matt@rainforestbb.com
or phone (check the Contact"page on the website for numbers).
Look forward to hearing from you.
